Tunstall back to Winning Ways

Following a seven-week midseason break Supersport Cup racer Tom Tunstall was back on the top step of the podium at Snetterton and closes to only one point from the championship lead.

Snetterton in Norfolk played host to the latest round of the British Superbike series and saw MotorcycleRaceParts racer Tom Tunstall back in action, having not selected Knockhill as a chosen round.

A technical issue and bike set-up woes during Friday's Free Practice sessions left the Yorkshireman on the back foot going into qualifying.

A revised set-up helped make progress in qualifying, but still with a lot of work to do going into Saturday's sprint race.

A great start saw Tunstall launch from 23rd to 16th and leading cup rider on lap one.

A race long scrap throughout the ten-lap encounter followed, resulting in Tunstall taking 15th overall and 1st in Supersport cup by only 0.3 seconds.

Another change for Sunday's morning warm up session with tweaks going into the feature race was indicative of the on-going work to optimise the team?s 2023 spec Ducati V2.

Another flying start saw Tunstall make up 4 places on the opening circulation. Mid race the seven-rider group continually changed positions with Tunstall nudged down to 5th cup rider at one stage!

Tunstall was back up to third on the last lap and managed to pinch back 2nd on the run to the flag. The first time Tunstall hasn't won in his six races so far this year.

The result also elevated Tunstall to 2nd place in the Supersport Cup championship on 147 points - only one point behind Harry Leigh with still one round in hand.

Tunstall reviewed his weekend:

"It's fair to say Snetterton isn't my strongest track but we were miles away on Friday! Which made getting the win on Saturday even more satisfying! I wasn't the quickest but a good start and consistency paid off."

"Sunday's race was really messy and mid race everyone was just holding each other up. It was frustrating as whenever I could get clear lap I went a lot faster. My fastest sector times of the weekend were on my last lap!"

"One of the most important things is the progress we made with the bike in every session. That's been really important to build my confidence especially as I'm still not 100% physically. I'm really looking forward to getting to the next round at Brands Hatch with a bike that is closer and having a good go there!"

The next round of the BSB series is the first of two visits to the Brands Hatch GP circuit in Kent over the weekend of the 21st-23rd of July.
