Snetterton Race Report

With an understandably sombre tone, the latest round of the Ducati Trioptions saw Tom Tunstall restart his podium run with a brace of second place finishes.

The 2.97mile Snetterton circuit in Norfolk played host to the 6th round on the Ducati Cup.

Changeable weather and very limited track time during practice and qualifying, left MotorcycleRaceParts / TYSERS racer Tom Tunstall on the back foot heading into the first of the weekends two races.

“Whilst I know my way around here we don’t have any experience of setting up the V2 for this track. Practice was on a drying track and it was similar but wetter for qualifying.

It was tricky at the start and the plan was to build up but just as I started to push it was cut short after two horses got onto the track!?..

We’ve had about 30mins track time and nothing fully dry yet. Having missed the official test at the start of the year we are definitely playing catch up. And being back in 10th on the grid won’t make it easy”.

A strong first lap saw Tunstall climb from 10th to 4th in the opening race.

Taking third on lap 3, he set to work closing down a near 2-second cap to second placed Phil Atkinson.

By lap six he’d caught and passed the South African and pulled clear a four second gap by the flag. Pole sitter David Shoubridge taking the win.

Second on the grid in Race Two Tunstall, was 4th into turn one. Shoubridge once again broke clear as the Yorkshireman worked his way through to second place and despite lapping faster than race one, was unable to change the outcome of the race, taking another 2nd place.

Tunstall explained:
“I had to work harder for both trophies this weekend. Not having Ducati experience here and missing testing punished us here. The weather and short sessions amplified the issue and made this weekend a struggle.

To be honest having not raced here or Cadwell for 5 years I knew they could be our weaker rounds. So all things considered we’ve done well with the cards we’ve been dealt. Now I’m really looking forward to Oulton and Brands now to see what we can do there”

The penultimate round of the 2022 Ducati Cup takes place at Oulton Park in Cheshire over the weekend of the 23rd - 25th of September
