Pair of Cup Podiums For Tunstall

SRG (Specialist Risk Group) Racer Tom Tunstall enjoyed a brace of podiums in the British Supersport Cup class at the latest event, narrowly missing the cup win by only 0.17 seconds in race two.

Donington Park’s second hosting of the British Superbike Championships was the penultimate event of season.

A packed grid of 46 Supersport Riders was challenged with cool and changing track conditions though practice and qualifying.

In the Supersport Cup class Tom Tunstall narrowly missed getting through to Q2 by only 0.28 seconds and classified as 3rd Cup rider on the grid for Saturday’s race.

Impeded by a grabbing clutch off the line Tunstall dropped to sixth place before working his way onto the back of series leader Cameron Hall and 3rd by lap six.

On the back of Hall for the remainder of the race his plans to take 2nd were hindered when his bike cut out down the back straight on the penultimate lap. Crossing the line less than half a second from Hall, he took third place in the Cup.

Sunday’s 16-lap feature race proved another close fought affair.

Tunstall ended the opening lap 2nd in Cup but embroiled in battles allowed Cup leader Hall to pull a gap of more than 3 seconds.

Over the next four laps Tunstall closed the gap to Hall and the five-rider group he was part of.

The next few laps saw him trying to find a way through whilst defending from another two cup rivals in closed attendance behind.

The battle saw the top three-cup riders all going into the final corner alongside each other! On the outside line Tunstall did all he could to find a way though but missed out on the Cup win by only 0.17 seconds. With the top three covered less than 0.4!

Tunstall evaluated his weekend:

“On one hand it’s been our best weekend of the year so far results wise, on the other hand I know we had the pace and therefore a good opportunity to win both Cup races. So it’s natural to feel some frustration but whichever way you look at it it’s been a positive weekend.

We’ve had some challenges to work through and I think we’ve got a better direction and plan as a team to help focus on the right areas and work to those over a race weekend.

It’s a shame we only have one meeting left this year but I’m looking forward to enjoying and making best of the opportunity.”

The final round of the 2024 British Superbike Championships takes place at Brands Hatch over the weekend of 11th-13th of October
